Two killed in fiery crash on Offin river bridge

Two people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident on the Offin River Bridge in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

The fatal crash involved a heavy-duty truck loaded with metal and a smaller truck transporting oil and sleeper materials.

According to preliminary reports, the two vehicles collided on the bridge, triggering a fire that completely engulfed the smaller truck.

The blaze reduced the small truck to ashes, leading to a complete blockage of the bridge and causing significant traffic disruption along the stretch.

Confirming the incident, the Afigya Kwabre North Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Kwame Yaro, expressed grave concern over the increasing frequency of accidents in the area. He noted that the situation is “getting out of hand” and called for urgent reinforcement and safety measures to prevent further loss of lives.

Emergency responders were deployed to the scene to manage the situation and restore traffic, while investigations have been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution when using the bridge as efforts continue to improve safety along the route.
