The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has announced plans to convert Terminal 2 of the Kotoka International Airport into a multipurpose facility by 2026, aiming to ease congestion and improve the passenger experience.

Appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, January 13, when asked about the state of the airport and what the government is doing to improve it, Minister Nikpe explained that the project will involve constructing a connecting concourse between Terminals 2 and 3, enabling smoother movement of passengers between the two terminals.

He highlighted that Terminal 3 often experiences severe overcrowding during peak hours, especially in the evenings, while Terminal 2 remains underutilized. The upgrade, he said, will help redistribute passenger traffic and enhance overall operational efficiency at the airport.

Describing the initiative as a high-priority government project, Minister Nikpe stated that the connecting concourse will allow international passengers to move seamlessly between terminals.

“We experience a lot of congestion in the evenings at Terminal 3, while Terminal 2 is not as busy during peak hours. The plan is to build a connecting concourse between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 to ease the movement of international passengers,” he said.

Once completed, Terminal 2 will accommodate both domestic and international travelers, a development expected to greatly improve comfort and streamline travel at Kotoka International Airport.
