The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a 32-year-old woman suspected to be a key player in the local drug trade during an anti-narcotics operation at Budumburam and surrounding communities in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.

In a statement released on Monday, January 18, the police said the operation, carried out on Friday, January 16, 2026, forms part of NACOC’s nationwide campaign to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.

The suspect, identified as Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother,” was described by community opinion leaders as a notorious figure in the area’s illicit drug network who had allegedly evaded arrest on several occasions.

According to NACOC, the suspect had been under close surveillance by the Commission’s intelligence unit due to her alleged involvement in various forms of illicit drug trafficking.

The operation resulted in the seizure of quantities of suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, as well as items believed to be connected to drug peddling activities.

Other individuals suspected to be involved in the illegal trade were also arrested.

NACOC stated that it had received numerous complaints from the public concerning the activities of some of the suspects currently in custody.

The Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts to rid Ghana of drug trafficking and abuse and assured the public that all suspects arrested during the operation will be duly processed and arraigned before court in accordance with the law.
