The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the Data Protection Commission (DPC) and the Ghana Association of Privacy Professionals (GAPP), has launched Data Protection Week 2026.

The theme for this year’s event is “Your Data, Your Identity: Building Trust in Ghana’s Digital Future.”

Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, highlighted the importance of data protection in Ghana’s digital transformation.

He praised the DPC’s “Privacy is Personal” campaign, which reached millions of Ghanaians and emphasized that privacy is a personal issue.

The Executive Director of the DPC, Dr. Arnold Kavaarpuo, stressed that personal data is linked to identity and affects access to essential services.

He emphasized that compliance with the Data Protection Act is mandatory for organizations handling citizens’ data.

GAPP President, Mr. Emmanuel Gadasu, described data protection professionals as key to maintaining public trust.

He urged organizations to invest in data protection and cybersecurity, and called on the media, judiciary, and citizens to play active roles in protecting privacy.
