The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to organise a National Thanksgiving Service following the successful conduct of its presidential primary on January 31, 2026.

In a statement issued on February 9 and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said the service is intended to thank God for what it described as a peaceful, credible and historic internal electoral process.

The thanksgiving will be held under the theme, “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,” drawn from Psalm 50:14.

The party’s presidential primary, which has attracted commendation from various stakeholders, saw former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia elected decisively as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general election.

The party said it is deeply grateful to God for the successful outcome of the exercise.

According to the statement, the thanksgiving activities will be organised in two phases.

An Islamic thanksgiving prayer service will take place on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the National Mosque in Kanda, starting at 12:30 p.m.

This will be followed by an interdenominational Christian thanksgiving service on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Auditorium, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The events are expected to attract Dr Bawumia, national and regional party executives, Christian and Muslim clergy, serving and former Members of Parliament, former ministers, former chief executives and managing directors of state institutions, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, as well as other former government appointees.

The NPP has invited its members, supporters, sympathisers and the general public to join in the thanksgiving services as the party seeks divine guidance for its leadership and vision for Ghana.
