Public basic school pupils in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency are set to benefit from a free cocoa drinks programme announced by Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, John Dumelo.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the legislator disclosed that effective March 2, 2026, pupils from Class 1 to Class 4 will receive Ghana-made cocoa drinks once every week until the end of the academic year.

“From the 2nd of March 2026, I will be providing free Ghana made cocoa drinks to all public basic pupils from class 1 to 4 in my beloved Ayawaso West Constituency,” Dumelo stated in a Facebook post.

According to the MP, the intervention is designed to support child nutrition while promoting local industry. He emphasized cocoa’s health value, describing it as “highly nutritional,” particularly for growing children.
“Cocoa serves as a highly nutritional powerhouse, especially for growing children. It is rich in essential antioxidants, iron, and magnesium, which are vital for cognitive development and maintaining high energy levels throughout the school day,” he noted.

Beyond the health benefits, Dumelo said the programme is intended to deliver broader economic and social impact.
“By sourcing exclusively Ghana-made products, we support our hardworking cocoa farmers and local manufacturers,” he explained.

He further linked the initiative to educational outcomes, adding that the drinks would serve as a nutritional incentive to improve school attendance.
“Providing nutritious incentives encourages consistent enrolment and participation in our public schools,” the MP stated.

Dumelo also framed the intervention as part of a wider civic objective, noting that “We want our children to grow up appreciating the ‘Gold’ of our land, fostering a lifelong connection to our national heritage,” he said highlighting national pride and heritage.
