NPA assures public of adequate fuel stocks amid global market concerns

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured the public that Ghana has sufficient fuel stocks and that the country’s petroleum supply situation remains stable despite concerns about developments in the global energy market.

In a statement released on Wednesday, March 11, the Authority said it had taken note of recent reports, speculation and public commentary regarding the possible impact of global energy market developments on fuel supply and pricing in Ghana.

The NPA indicated that following a comprehensive review of national petroleum stock levels and supply arrangements conducted together with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and other key industry stakeholders, there are adequate quantities of Petrol (PMS), Diesel (AGO), Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) available to meet both current and projected national demand.

The Authority explained that government, through the Ministry and the NPA, continues to implement measures aimed at safeguarding supply reliability and maintaining stability in the petroleum market.

These measures include continuous monitoring of national stock levels and strategic coordination with international oil trading companies, Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs), as well as BOST Energies and local refineries to ensure timely imports and steady product availability across the country.

The NPA further noted that it is strengthening supply planning and price monitoring mechanisms to help mitigate potential disruptions or price volatility that could arise from developments in the global petroleum market.

It therefore urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying, stressing that the petroleum supply chain is functioning normally and that adequate fuel stocks are available nationwide.

The Authority emphasized its commitment to ensuring reliable fuel supply, transparent market operations and the protection of consumer interests, while promising to keep the public informed of any significant developments.
