President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will implement a free visa policy for all African nationals travelling to the country, effective May 25, 2026, in celebration of Africa Day.

The announcement was made during a state visit by Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, highlighting a major step in Ghana’s push to deepen continental integration.

According to President Mahama, the initiative is aimed at strengthening Ghana’s position as a hub for Pan-Africanism while boosting tourism and promoting intra-African trade.

He explained that the visa-free entry policy will be incorporated into a broader e-visa system scheduled for rollout next month under his administration.

He noted that under the new policy, African travellers will be able to obtain their e-visas online at no cost.

He also pointed out that Ghana and Zimbabwe already enjoy a visa-free travel arrangement, allowing citizens of both countries to move freely without visa requirements.

President Mahama further disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will intensify efforts to secure more visa waiver agreements to expand travel opportunities for Ghanaian passport holders.

Meanwhile, Ghana and Zimbabwe signed 10 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
