He revealed, the flooding situation in parts of the constituency has become critical, with several homes and businesses submerged, forcing many families to flee their communities.
Addressing Parliament on Thursday, May 28, Mr. Shaib described the condition in Weija-Gbawe as devastating, revealing that he had personally joined rescue efforts over the past few days.
“Mr. Speaker, it hasn’t been easy at all. I have been swimming for the past three days, helping people to evacuate. My people are suffering. Weija Gbawe is under siege,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the (NADMO) says at least 85 residents affected by the flooding have been relocated to designated safe shelters.
The flooding followed the controlled spillage of the Weija Dam as part of routine dam management operations.
Authorities opened all five spill gates to manage rising inflows and protect the structural integrity of the dam, leading to increased downstream water levels and widespread flooding in nearby communities.
