Mix reactions greet Asantehene’s money laundering scandal

Radio callers into a socio-political afternoon show on Accra- based Happy FM have disagreed with each other over the Asantehene Osei Tutu II’s involvement in the scandal that broke in the United Kingdom’s newspaper called Telegraph.
Whereas other radio callers known in Ghanaian parlance as ‘Serial Callers’ were of the view that the story is a non- starter, others believed that the story must be looked at, since it smacks of money laundering activities on the part of the Asante king.
But the presenter of Happy FM’s afternoon socio –political show dubbed ‘Epa Hoa Daben’; Kwame Afrifa Mensah jumped to the defense of the Asante king, Otumfour Osei Tutu II saying the story is a ploy to tarnish the image of the king.
He said king’s alleged involvement in the money laundering scandal in the United Kingdom (UK) is much I do about nothing urging Asantes to rally behind the king.
He questioned why the people are using the said story to tarnish the image of the revered Asante king.
He said the story has been put out there to denigrate the hard won reputation of the third most powerful king on the African continent.
According to him, the amount of three hundred fifty thousand Pounds involved in the scandal is no money for the Asante king.
He said if the United Kingdom officials have anything better to do with their time they should come and arrest him for flouting their laws.
He noted that the said amount of money is chicken feed for the Asante kingdom stemming from the amount of moneys the Asantehene earns from the monthly royalties from mining alone in the Ashanti Region.
