Members of Parliament (MPs) have expressed worry over the increasing spate of leaked sex tapes in the country.
Since the beginning of the year, several of such leaked tapes including that of a Pastor’s wife; a headmaster and a student having sex on a kitchen stool, as well as the Bantama gang rape tape, have gone viral on social media much to the discomfort of the victims.
The MPs who were contributing to a statement on the floor of parliament on Thursday, 1 February 2018, condemned the act and called on mobile phone users to be circumspect about pictures and videos they take with their phones to prevent such embarrassment.
Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, contributing to the discussion said: “The best way to avoid this scandalous thing is self-discipline, privacy must be protected and respected, but I’m afraid legislation may not be able to resolve it. We must just ensure conscious use of the mobile phone.”
MP for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea quizzed “Are we now saying that people should not have romance on phones or it should be moderated”?
He added: “Mr Speaker, these are serious matters of concern especially those of us in this house that if you should have serious romance on your phone you could be affected. If distance is now inhibiting what is natural and romantic this machine has the tendency to help you in some dimension.”
