Gyan should rescind his penalty decision or forget the armband- Odartey

Former Accra Great Olympics defender, Odartey Lawson has implored Asamoah Gyan to reverse his decision of not taking penalties for the Black Stars again or forgo the captain armband.

Gyan, after his penalty misses in the quater final against Uruguay in the South Africa 2010 World Cup and also in the 1-0 loss to Zambia in the semi-final of the 2012 AFCON in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, recieved bashes from every corner of the country for his lackadaisical way of taking penalty responsibility.

He later revealed that his mother has warned him not to take penalty for the Black Stars again because should could not stand the invectives that were aimed at him.

However, Odartey Lawson, known in football circles as ‘Lalas’ has charged the Black Stars skipper to reverse his decision or forget about the team’s armband.

“It’s appalling when you have a leader in a team who cannot play a penalty for the team to win. What kind of leadership are you trying to show us?” the ex-Eleven Wise player quizzed.

“I’m charging him to change his decision after i’m done talking about him on this topic, or if anyone has his phone number, he should call and tell him that I Odartey Lawson says he should come out and tell Ghanaians he has rescinded his decision on the penalty promise he made to us.” He told Otec.

“If he cannot make that commitment to the Black Stars, then he has to resign for somebody who can take a penalty and lead the team. You can’t say you won’t take penalties because your told you not to play, your mother is not part of the team.”

Odartey Lawson was a key member of Ghana’s 1997 U-20 team.
