MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

Akufo-Addo focused on delivery, never promised lean gov't – Gabby

A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has replied critics of President Nana Akufo-Addo large government.

According to the former Executive Director of policy think tank Danquah Institute (DI) who was reacting to the public outrage of a list of 998 staffers at the presidency, President Akufo-Addo never promised to run a lean government.
President Akufo-Addo after pressure from the opposition NDC released a list of 998 people work at the seat of government, the Jubilee House in Accra.
He made the revelation last week when the list was presented to Parliament in compliance with Section 11 of the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463), which requires the President to submit annually to Parliament, a report on the staffing position of the Office of the President.
He took to his Facebook page to write; “Akufo-Addo has never put lean government before a government that delivers. I recall in 2006, we were working on a speech and when I mentioned ‘lean government’, he told me point blankly that our situation in Ghana calls more for a well-resourced government machinery that can deliver. To drum home the point, he said the whole of Brong Ahafo had one senior prosecutor when he was appointed AG. “The consequences of that is the delay and denial of justice to both the accused and victims of crime. I want to focus on the delivery machinery, on results.” I don’t think he has changed. None of his 3 Manifestos stressed on the concept of small government. To him the capacity and ability to deliver is what matters most. Competent delivery is, after all, cost effective”.
