Will Nyantakyi go down alone?

President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi on Tuesday became wanted for defrauding by false pretence after he allegedly used the name of the president, Nana Akufo-Addo, to peddle influence.
Deputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor on Tuesday announced that President Nana Addo had lodged a formal complaint with the police over the inappropriate use of his name by the Mr Nyantakyi.
“The president of the republic has had the benefit of viewing aspects of this investigative piece.”
And in this documentary, the President of the GFA Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi is supposedly seen attempting to use the President’s name, and that of the vice President and other senior officials of government to induce supposed potential investors into the country to part with various sums of monies.”
“The president as a responsible citizen and indeed and in fact and particularly as the chief custodian of our laws and enforcer of our laws has had to consult and evaluate the content of this investigative piece. The president after these consultations is fully satisfied that a Prima Facie basis is been established for criminal investigations to be launched into the conduct of the president of the Ghana football association Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi and any other accomplices that may exist and therefore the President has reported this matter to the legally sanctioned and mandated agencies of state” Mr Jinapor stated.
This announcement has sparkled wild jubilation on social media.
Under his 13-year tenure as the nation’s football governing body head, Mr Nyantakyi he has chalked a number of successes, but the momentous one will be when he led Ghana to its first appearance at the World Cup in 2006 before repeating the feat twice in 2010 and 2014.
Mr Nyantakyi is alleged to have said in undercover documentary by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ which captured him saying Ghana is the easiest place to do business.
“Ghana is the easiest place to do business. All you have to do is to give the President of Ghana $5 million and the Vice President $3m. I have the President in my pocket. I see him every day. As for the referees, all you need is to give them GH¢20 and girls and they are sorted.”
In 2014, an undercover investigation led by The Telegraph newspaper in Canada and Channel 4 in the United Kingdom was captured on tape fixing match but Mr Nyantakyi was exonerated by a court of competent jurisdiction.
President Akufo-Addo said, “GFA is not an island when it comes to the criminal laws of Ghana and so an action can be taken and that is what has been done. Nobody will be allowed to go scot free if found guilty”
The question is, will Mr Nyantakyi go down alone in this scandal or will he drag some of the so called football people with him.
