Atletico Madrid midfielder Bernard Mensah reveals he ‘loved’ Real Madrid as a kid

Atletico Madrid midfielder Bernard Mensah has declared he ‘loved’ Real Madrid in his youth, though he pointed out that dream has vanished into thin air now.
Mensah joined Atletico Madrid on a six-year deal two seasons ago but failed to establish himself in the side which saw him spending time on loan at Getafe and Vitória Guimarães.
The 23-year-old was again shipped on loan to Kasimpasa on a season long loan at the start of the just ended Turkish SuperLiga campaign.
He became a mainstay in the side – scoring five goals in 25 appearances to help the club finish 8 on the standings.
“I dream of playing for Real Madrid since childhood but I’m with Atletico Madrid now so I can’t say it anymore,” Mensah told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports.
“I used to dream playing alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Sergio Ramos, and being coached by Zidane but it’s no more because I’ve become their rival so it forbids me from having that dream again.”
Mensah’s swashbuckling performance for Kasimpasa is reported to have caught the attention of several clubs – with Göztepe reported to be leading the chase for his signature.
However, it remains to be seen if he will be allowed to leave the club or Diego Simeone will hand an opportunity next season.
