Ashanti region NDC constituency elections hit with seven injunctions

The National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti region has been unable to organise constituency executive elections in all 47 constituencies.
Seven constituencies have been served court injunctions preventing Saturday’s exercise from coming on.
The constituencies include Subin, Bekwai, Manhyia North, Kwadaso, Asokwa, Afigya kwabere and Atwima Nwabeagya south.
Only 29 constituencies have had their elections held with the rest scheduled to come off, in the course of the week for what the party calls religious reasons put forward by sects whose religion bars them from undertaking other duties on Saturdays.
Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC Kwame Zu told ULTIMATE News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador the Gyidi Faith worshipers for instance sent in a petition from Mampong asking that the party  postponed the elections.
He explained, “Most of these Gyidi Members are resident in a place like Mampong and their religion does not allow them to travel on Saturdays so accordingly, we have rescheduled their elections to next week Thursday having received a petition from them. Most of these constituencies where these issues are peculiar have had their elections rescheduled accordingly to meet their religious aspirations.”
Mr Zu however indicated that the party will be holding some elections on Sunday and Monday as the party thrushes out the contentions that have arisen with some aggrieved aspirants securing court injunctions.
