The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunication has stated that the constant stealing of Fibre Optic cables is having a negative impact on the service delivery of the Telecommunication Networks in the country.

Speaking on ’Epa Hoa Daben’ show on Happy FM to Kwame Afrifa Mensah, Mr. Ashigbey said the fibre cables are what ensure quality service “but you always have people cutting the cables at any time and stealing generator batteries. It is a threat to quality of the services delivered by the Telcos.’’

He also attributed the increasing population of urban centres as part of the issues causing poor service delivery which he said puts pressure on the existing Telecom Masts.
‘’A lot of people believe that radiation from the Mast is dangerous to their health. I have seen a research report that proves the Mast is quite safe compared to high tension poles from GRIDCO and ECG,’’ he said.

Mr. Ashigbey resigned from Graphic Communications Group Limited, after six years of providing leadership to the state media house and took up the new appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of the Telecoms Chamber, replacing Kwaku Sakyi-Addo who now heads the National Communications Authority (NCA) as the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

He assumed duty on November 1st 2017.
