Trigmatic gives his honest take on Payola

There has been lot of controversies regarding radio presenters and DJs in the media allegedly charging and accepting money from artistes before playing their music on radio and TV which has been termed, ‘Payola’.

Radio personality and Musician ‘’Trigmatic’’ has revealed in an interview that he does not charge neither does he accept  payola from both young and old artistes.

The ‘’hold yuh’’ hitmaker in an interview with DJ Advicer, host of Ayekoo after drive show on Happy 98.9FM said, “well, a lot of people have been bringing me payola but I always reject them and direct them to some other DJs because I know the struggles some of the DJs also go through, though some are very tempting looking at the amount of money involved.

Some feel they need to do it but in a form of appreciation while others really push me which I often feel is a trap. Currently in Ghana there is the need to be careful about these things due to the fact that people are evil and you could end up putting yourself in a corner. Even if somebody gives you Gh¢1, they will attack you with it.’’

Trigmatic explained when host of the show DJ Advicer, asked him whether he feels trapped by the way some artiste approach to give him payola.

Nonetheless, considering the challenges artistes especially in Ghana are confronted with and the rate at which they want to ‘hit’ within the shortest possible time, payola seems not to end anytime soon.
