The Black Queens of Ghana have been eliminated from the ongoing Africa Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after playing a pulsating 1-1 stalemate with Cameroon at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Queens were under severe pressure to win emphatically against the Cameroonians to enhance their chances of progressing to the next phase of the tournament but Christine Manie’s penalty shattered Ghana’s hope of winning the trophy on home soil.

Samira Suleiman and captain Elizabeth Addo were restored into the starting lineup after they were dropped against Mali by Bashiru Hayford but led to no avail.

The Black Queens did not allow the Cameroonians a moment of respite as they constantly mounted pressure on the visitors and came close through Elizabeth Addo who unleashed a shot but the strike hit the post. They eventually scored the opener through Portia Boakye who scored a stunning free-kick in the 32nd minute.

The celebration was, however, truncated after Ghana goalkeeper Asantewaa needlessly brought down Onguene in the 41st minute. Christine Manie struck the ball hard and low into the bottom right corner to restore parity before the break.

Ghana started off in the same fashion as they did in the first half and applied a lot of pressure on the Cameroonians but the host have no goal to show.

The host appealed for the penalty after Elizabeth Addo collided with Ndom but the referee thought otherwise.

The Black Queens threw everything at the Cameroonians but the sturdy defence of the visitors kept the scoreline levelled.

Cameroon joined by Mali, after beating Algeria 3-2 qualify to the next phase of the tournament.
