Handing over of wheel to new CNS

Rear-Admiral (R/Adm) Peter Kofi Faidoo has successfully handed over the wheel of leadership to R/Adm Seth Amoama, after three years of tour-of-duty as the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) and also retired after thirty-nine (39) years of naval service to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Rear-Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo, Former CNS delivering farewell speech

At an impressive ceremony held at the forecourt of the Navy Headquarters in the forenoon of Tuesday, January 8th, 2019, attended by a whitely dressed Naval contingent, R/Adm Faidoo (rtd), who succeeded R/Adm Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (whom the former touts as the best developmental CNS so far), expressed profound gratitude to all who helped him.

Recounting a few of the projects completed under his leadership, Admiral Faidoo (rtd) mentioned the completion and furnishing of the Navy Headquarters (HQ), which was started by the late Vice/Admiral (V/Adm) Owusu-Ansah, but mainly built by Admiral Biekro.

R/Adm Faidoo (rtd) also cited the. completion of the 368-unit accommodation for officers and ratings in Tema – now called BIEKRO BARRACKS, the NAVY@50 Transit Quarters at Burma Camp and other related projects in Sekondi, in the Western Region.

Under his command, the Ghana Navy commenced training of recruits at the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) at Agorta, Sogakope – an idea which was mooted by V/Adm Matthew Quashie (rtd) as CNS, really built by Admiral Biekro, but is now a fully functional Command that has already trained three batches of recruits.

Admiral Faidoo (rtd) also introduced the wearing of gorgets on the Navy uniform by Naval Captains and above, expanded coverage of the maritime surveillance by establishing additional maritime operational centres at Aflao, Tema Newtown and also in the West.

He also established the Special Boat Squadron (Special Forces) after training them in Nigeria, Egypt, Greece and the United States of America.
