Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has on Friday February 8th sworn in the three-member Commission of Inquiry tasked to probe the violence which nearly tarnished the by-election held in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency on Thursday January 31, 2019.

Acting President Bawumia, with the consent of President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, set-up a Commission of Inquiry into the events of violence which occurred during the by-election.

Bawumia after administering the Oath of Secrecy to three members of the Commission said, all required logistics will be made readily available to the commission to ensure that it executes its assignment within the proposed timeline of one calendar month.

On his part, Chairman of the Commission, Justice Emile Short, also said they will carry out their assignment transparently, objectively and without fear or favour.

Other members of the Commission are law professor, Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu and former Inspector-General of Police, Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong.
Private legal practitioner and former Dean of the GIMPA Law School, Dr. Ernest Kofi Abotsi, was also appointed Secretary of the Commission.

They have one month to submit a report to President Akufo-Addo, giving reasons for their findings and recommendations, including appropriate sanctions.
