Former President John Mahama has warned all vigilante groups affiliated to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stay away from the party’s presidential primaries on Saturday.

The Former President stated that the party leadership has contracted the Ghana Police Service to provide security across all 275 voting centres hence there’ll be no need for the vigilante groups to present themselves as a form of security for the party.

Speaking on Radio Gold, Mr. Mahama further warned that anyone who presents himself as a security personnel will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He said: “We have spoken to the Ghana Police Service to provide security at all the 275 voting centres and, so, the Ghana Police Service is going to be in charge of security. Nobody else is going to provide security and, so, if anybody goes there as a vigilante and you say you are a security personnel, the Ghana Police Service will deal with you”.

Mr. Mahama has further charged the electorate to “vote peacefully and get back home in peace”.

Mr. Mahama is contesting six others for the flag bearer slot of the NDC. They include Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, former UPSA Rector Prof Joshua Alabi; a former aide to ex-president Jerry John Rawlings, Mr Goosie Tanoh, former Minister of Trade and Industries Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Sylvester Mensah and businessman Nurudeen Iddrisu.
