The Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS), will host its 3rd annual fundraising dinner on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Kempisky Hotel, Gold Coast City, Accra.

Proceeds from the event will support needy patients with various  musculosketal conditions, who are unable to afford their treatment. Over the past two years, the Foundation hospital in Pantang-Adenta, has raised funds to sponsor surgical procedures for over ten patients whose surgeries have averaged between $15,000 to $20,000. Beneficiaries have returned to normal and productive lives.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Founder and President of FOCOS, Prof Oheneba Boachie-Adjei said, “The FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital is sustained by donations and sponsorships from benevolent individuals as well as organizations”. He further acknowledged organizations like the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) for their commitment towards supporting hospital and projects needy patients. “Ghanaian organizations like GNPC, Compassion International and other philanthropic organizations, have provided similar support for the facility as well as needy patients to undergo life-changing orthopedic surgeries,”.  However, he mentioned that there were close to 1000 patients on our waiting list due to lack of funds to support their treatment.

FOCOS’s mission is to help address a growing, and often neglected burden of musculoskeletal diseases. Many people, especially children, from poor households suffer from clubfoot, spinal deformities and bowed legs. Adult patients with arthritis of the knee and hips, other infectious and rheumatic diseases also form part of the population in need of help.

Previous events have featured signatories like: H.E John Agyekum Kufuor, former President of Ghana, Dr. K.K Sarpong, Chief Executive Officer of GNPC and Dr. Rick Hodes, Medical Director for the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in Ethiopia. The event has also hosted celebrities including Boris Kodjoe, Hollywood, US-based Ghanaian Hollywood star, Bisa K’Dei, award-winning Ghanaian singer and renowned Ghanaian Poet, Chief Moomen.

Tickets of the event can be obtained at the FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital or can be bought online on the FOCOS Hospital website or Eventbrite.com, beginning March, 1, 2019. A ticket for this year’s FOCOS fundraising dinner is GH₵ 750 and it can be delivered at a fee if interested attendees call 0200000856/0203801394.
