Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye, has descended heavily on some Ghanaians, particularly religious leaders and politicians whose actions he said has become the bane of Ghana’s problems.

He said it was unfortunate that some pastors spend ample time preaching not about the word of God but designer things they possess, while some chiefs have also made it a practice to sell one parcel of land to 10 people, describing these acts as shameful.

Addressing a gathering of religious, political leaders and civil society in Kumasi, Apostle Nyamekye did not mince words in chastising politicians who use the authority vested in them to borrow money from the west and misappropriate same for their personal gains.

He said it is despicable for these leaders to take loans from foreign governments and institutions under the guise of using same for developmental projects for the benefit of the citizenry but end up squandering a chunk of it.

Christians lead in corruption

In his view, it is wrong to always blame only politicians for corruption, noting many directors of institutions who are Christians and leaders of their churches are perpetrators of corruption.

With about 70 per cent of Ghana’s population said to be Christians, Apostle Nyamekye was surprised corruption was on the ascendency in the country.

This, he said suggests that Christians dominate in corruption in the country.

Apostle Nyamekye has thus called for a complete change of mindset to free the system of corruption and selfishness.

Environmental Care Campaign

Commenting on the Environmental Care Campaign at the Asokwa Area Assembly in Kumasi, Apostle Nyamekye said the Church as part of its civic responsibility, partnering with Zoomlion Ghana Limited to ensure that the environment is kept clean at all.

The campaign lunched last year for the next five years themed “My Environment, My Responsibility,” will also ensure tree planting by the Church for a green revolution.

Apostle Nyamekye said the Church of Pentecost will partner with government to provide facilities to decongest Ghana’s over populated prisons, build CHPS compounds in selected communities and drill boreholes in another partnership with World Vision.

The Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive, Akwanuassah Gyimah said government was grateful to the Church of Pentecost for their innovations over the years that has been very helpful to the country and urged them to keep it up.

He said government will continue to support the church and Zoomlion’s collaboration to ensure the country becomes attractive to tourists.

Mr Gyimah advised Ghanaians to be careful of ponzi schemes which operate under the guise of investment firms offering mouth-watering interest rates.

He debunked claims that the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was collapsing banks for his Data Bank firm to thrive.

The municipal chief executive explained the collapse of the banks was due to the recklessness in the banking sector.

For his part, Asokwa Municipal Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mr Maxwell O. Antwi said Zoomlion has diagnosed and prescribed waste bins as one-stop solution to Ghana’s waste problems.

He said the bin when adopted by everyone including government, will provide jobs for the youth, enhance tourism, ensure a cleaner environment, protect Ghanaians from communicable diseases.

It will also save the Nationally Health Insurance Scheme from collapsing as fewer people will use fall sick and access the facility.

He urged government, civil society groups and the individual Ghanaian to embrace Zoomlion’s one million bin distribution project to own a waste bin to ensure household cleanliness.
