Nikki Kuenyefu Boa-Amponsem, a British trained health and beauty therapist, has recounted how she started 2nd Image on e.TV Ghana’s ‘African Women’s Voices’.

Speaking with Nosisa Doe, host of the show, on the topic ‘Becoming my own boss’, Nikki Kuenyefu Boa-Amponsem said, “I had my own small something in London but I returned to Ghana at the time where Ghanaians were not doing facials. They were bleaching and weight gain was fashionable,’’ she recounted.

‘’ I started aerobics in my living room and I partitioned the room in such a way that I can do the aerobics and sleep in a couch when I needed to. I had an arrangement for those who want to exercise before work or those that will take a break during working hours and the ones that want after work hours training. I was the instructor and that is how 2nd image started,’’ she stated proudly.

In answering the question about when she moved the business from her living room, she said ‘’ I registered the company from day one and had a business account because where I was coming from, you register your business before you start and I wanted to do the right thing. 2nd Image was in my living room for ten years before I moved out.’’

She also believes that you can be empowered but not successful.
She however, gave several tips for up and coming women entrepreneurs to apply and become successful.

‘’ Focus on what you know best and constantly upgrade your skills. Always be aware of global trends and never lose sight of what competition is doing. Another secret for success is your good relationship with your staff and not necessarily the pay you give them,’’ she said.

She further advised young entrepreneurs to maintain good relationships with their mentors and trainers so that they can go back anytime to learn more.

She also said delegating roles is one of her weaknesses. “I cannot delegate because I feel someone won’t do it exactly the way I would do it,’’ she opined.
