Oswald Okaitei, a multiple award winning poet and spoken word artiste, will on Wednesday May 8 perform some of his recent artistic creations at the Goethe-Institut in Accra: a trilogy created with different poetry works by different poets (including Kofi Awoonor, Atukwei Okai, Kofi Anyidoho, Lade Wosornu, Mawuli Adzei) and himself, support with dance & music.

The poet, who recently performed at the National Theatre in Accra during the launch of three books by Ghanaian academic Dr. Mawuli Adzei, combines music with poetry to paint images in the eyes and minds of his audience.

Also a playwright, actor, artistic director and Creative ‘Artpreneur’, he has transformed several poems into dramatic acts and has shared stages with a number of icons including Muta Baruka, Rocky Dawuni, late Prof. Atukwei Okai and Prof. Kofi Anyidoho among others.

Okaitei has produced a number of plays including “In the Bag of a Woman”, “In Man’s Libido” and “Beautyful Nonsense”. In 2016, he was awarded the Pan-African Poet and Spoken word Artiste in Ghana prize for his commendable services to the arts in Ghana.

In 2016 and 2017, he participated in Babishai Niew, a Ugandan Poetry Festivaland and representzed Ghana at the 10th edition of Storymoja Festival, which took place in Kenya in 2018. His poetry collections include “A Wreath To Awoonor”, “A Bright Light Sleeps and Other Poems”, “Songs Of Condolence To Tacloban”, “The Sailor’s Sail Is Over”, “Mandela: The Soul Of His Earth, Tears and Joy At 60” and a play titled “In The Bag Of A Woman”.

Goethe-Institut Ghana is supporting the performance.
