Former Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has rescinded his decision to retire from international football ahead of the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Gyan took to his twitter handle to announce the ‘U-turn’, which he said was influenced by a conversation with President Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday.

President Akufo-Addo had on Tuesday invited the head coach of the Black Stars, Coach Kwesi Appiah to the Jubilee House over Gyan’s retirement.

The President’s intervention was met by criticisms with some feeling his involvement in the matter was “needless” and “misplaced”.

On Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, Halidu Haruna, a member of the communications team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), said the president should focus on more pressing issues that are bothering the country rather than unnecessary interferences in the country’s football administration.

Gyan’s decision to return to the Senior National Team has got Ghanaians talking on social media.

Below is how some Ghanaians reacted to his decision;

We appreciate the President’s intervention but can he intervene for the many young men and women who have no idea where their next meal will come from?

Can the president intervene for homeless Ghanaians?

Asamoah Gyan’s decision has no impact on economic growth. https://t.co/wHtftlHBuZ

The statement has landed. Asamoah Gyan says a presidential request is one that cannot be regarded so he is available for selection again.#3Sports pic.twitter.com/2hxuqCJfPb

I think the President's decision to talk @ASAMOAH_GYAN3 into playing is wrong. We pay Kwasi Appiah to take such decisions and he is being undermined. @NAkufoAddo #BlackStars
