Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has honored Ghana’s second winter Olympian skeleton athlete, Kofi Frimpong, for his performance in the year 2018 season.

The 44th edition of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) awards ceremony was held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) with several sports personalities taking home honours. But Kofi Frimpong was not there to receive his award so he received the award at Accra Sports Stadium on May 23.

Speaking to the media at the press conference on Wednesday when he was presented with the SWAG Special Award at the Accra Sports Stadium , Kofi Frimpong said, “My vision is to train more Ghanaian athletes to know the sport and grow them to become future Olympic medal hopefuls,”

A SWAG representative, Sammy Heywood Okine, who presented the award to the skeleton athlete, extolled his feat as worthy of celebrating by the nation.

Frimpong, who was joined by his wife, Erica Frimpong, to collect the award, thanked SWAG for the honour done him and pledged to live by the spirit of the ward, which is to make Ghana proud in any international winter event.

“I am very proud of this honour, my family is very proud and my wife is so too. I would never let this country down and would do my very best to alway bring honour to this nation,” he stated.

Frimpong currently ranked 67th in the world, hopes to be among the top 10 in three years’ time.
