I didn’t take a dime to perform at VGMAs – KiDi

Highlife sensation, KiDi, has revealed that most artists who performed at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) did it for free that without taking a dime from Charterhouse, organizers of the event.

KiDi, born Dennis Nana Dwamena, speaking in an interview on Happy FM’s ‘Ayekoo After Drive’ with DJ Advicer said, “Let me tell you a secrete, most of the shows are free show.”

KiDi revealed that he did not charge Charterhouse a dime for performing at the just ended VGMA.

“We have decided not to take money for VGMA performances. It is Ghanaian music’s biggest night. A night we have chosen to celebrate Ghanaian music. So why do you have to take money. We thought that, the money the organizers will get from selling tickets and others, should be used or invested to make the show better with regards to production, ” he stated.

He added that, this is not a barter system -meaning to perform for free and get awards on the night-. According to him some artists performed for free on the night but did not get any award.

KiDi’s assertion comes at a time where there is some sort of tension between Charterhouse and some industry players over their recent actions against Dancehall artists Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy -whose altercations nearly marred the 20th edition of the VGMA last Saturday-.

KiDi was won the ‘Male Vocalist of the Year’ at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMA) with his ‘Thunder’ hit song.
