MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of embattled gold dealership Menzgold, has expressed gratitude to Ambassador of Ghana to the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, for the consular services extended to him during his eight months predicament in Dubai.

Addressing the press Monday, August 19 in Accra, NAM 1 said “Let me also take the opportunity to thank the Government of Ghana; Ambassador of Ghana to the United Arab Emirates; His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, for the consular services extended to me during my eight months detention in Dubai. I thank the Ghana Police Service for the warm reception and the exhibit of professionalism in the discharge of their duty on my arrival to Ghana on the 11th July, 2019.”

He also thanked the overlord of Dubai “I express my greatest form of immense gratitude to the ruler of Dubai, His Royal Highness Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in his gracious name the Dubai Prosecutions and the Dubai Courts exhibited the highest form of integrity, by boldly upholding the rule of law, handing me justice before the Dubai first instance and superior Courts in the case number 68807/2018, an acquittal and discharge. May Allah, ever merciful, most compassionate bless and prosper Dubai forever. Allah Kareem.”

“I owe an immense debt of gratitude to the people of Ghana, our legal team abroad and in Ghana, led by Mr. Kwame Boafo Akuffo, my brother and my good friend; who has been resolute, exhibited loyalty and courage in the face our adversity, exhibiting his service and commitment to nothing but the law.,” he added.

Mr. Mensah was granted bail by Ghana on Tuesday, August 6 after he met his reviewed bail conditions.

The Menzgold CEO has been accused of defrauding about 16,000 customers of about ¢1.68 billion.

He was earlier standing trial in Dubai after his arrest there in connection with an alleged fraudulent gold deal.
Menzgold Ghana has been facing legal battle since the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ordered it in September 2018 to halt its ‘illegal’ deposit-taking business with the public.
