Weightlifter David Akwei secured a second bronze for Team Ghana in the 81kg category at the ongoing African Games in Rabat, Morocco, yesterday.

This follows last Sunday’s bronze-winning feat chalked up by teenage female weightlifter, Winnifred Ntumi, in the 45kg category.

That brings the total medal tally for Team Ghana to two after seven days of competition.

In table tennis, the duo of Derek Abrefa and Felix Lartey beat Morocco’s pair of Tirselt M and Karam Salim 3-2 in the one-sixteenth stage of the men’s doubles yesterday to progress to the quarter-finals. However, the pair lost 2-3 in the quarter-finals to Nigeria’s duo of Aruna Quadri and Abiodun Bode.

Ghana’s duo of Samuel Akayade and Emmanuel Commey beat Egypt’s pair of Essar Khalid and Assar Omar 3-2 to progress to the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles yesterday.

In the ladies event, the pair of Lynda Annor and Cynthia Kwabi were beaten 3-0 by the Egyptian duo of Dina Meshref and Yousra Helmy in the quarter-finals.
