Former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has said the government was hasty with its conclusion of instability plot in Ghana following the recovery of arms and explosives.

On Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show, the Former National Security Advisor said the description given by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah about how the arrested persons were planning to execute the plan falls below expectation, hence more clarity should be provided.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, in a press release revealed how State Agencies detected and foiled a planned attack on the Jubilee House leading to the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunitions from Alajo, Bawaleshie, and Dodowa.

“The actions that go into coup making go beyond what the security and the Minister of Information are telling us. They will need to provide further clarity on the matter,” Nunoo-Mensah said.

“What they did is too hasty, it’s not necessary as if they want to scare people in the country, This is not a proper coup plot. The government was just helping to create panicked,” he added.

The Three persons picked up by state security agencies on suspicion of engaging in “an elaborate plot targeted at the Presidency,” have been slapped with five charges.

The charges are;

  1. Conspiracy to commit crime – Manufacture of arms and ammunition without lawful authority.
  2. Conspiracy to commit crime – Possession of explosives and firearms without lawful authority.
  3. Manufacture of firearms without lawful authority.
  4. Manufacture of explosives and ammunition’s without lawful authority
  5. Possession of explosives and firearms.
