Catholic Bishops’ Conference calls government irresponsible

President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Archbishop Philip Naameh has spoken passionately against the proposed curriculum for Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) that is to be introduced into the primary school curriculum.

“At the age of 5, it is criminal to introduce these little ones to that kind of knowledge. I think it is irresponsible for the government to come out and say this if it is truly the government”.

Speaking on behalf of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’, he stated that, if the CSE was being introduced into the tertiary institution, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference would not have been worried that much as tertiary students are discerning enough to know right from wrong. But introducing it to kids at that age is morally wrong.

He however wants to believe that, it is not the government in itself which is doing this but maybe some Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) propagating it.

Beginning next year, pupils in all public schools, including 4-year-olds will be given Comprehensive Sexuality Education. Officials say the subject content would be age-appropriate and empower pupils with values that would protect them from sexual harassment.

But the programme has come under intense criticism receiving bashing from a section of the public including church leaders with many describing it as a deliberate attempt to introduce homosexuality to Ghana.
