The former executive secretary to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Retired Superintendent Peter Lanchene Toobu has advocated that, every individual engaged in active politics at the national level should retire at age 70.

Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’, he declared, “Anyone at age 70 shouldn’t engage in active politics but retire and rest. If I had the power, I’ll ensure that anyone contesting for elections will not be 70 years and more.”

Borrowing the words of the Late Kofi Annan who said “stop voting for people over 70 years”, Peter Toobu added that, in principle, everyone above 70 years should be home relaxing and mentoring others not moving around.

“Africa should begin to think about young leaders with dexterity and energy to drive the country along”, he told host of the show,Kwame Afrifa.

Peter Lanchene Toobu retired from his position as the executive secretary to the IGP to contest for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries. He won the primaries and will be representing the party in the Wa West constituency in the 2020 general elctions.
