Ghanaian gospel reggae singer, Phil Evans Akesse-Brempong has said that Nigerian contemporary music has gained grounds than those from Ghana because the use of their local language in their gospel music.

He was speaking in an interview with Dr. Cann on the ‘Showbiz Xtra’ show aired on Happy FM on Saturday.

“Nigerian Gospel is gaining grounds because they capitalize on their local language. By their tone and diction, you could tell that a Nigerian was singing and that is what gave rise to contemporary Nigerian music”, he said.

According to him, when Ghanaian contemporary gospel music began, it was difficult to identify with the music because it was sang solely in the English Language. He, however, acknowledged that the style of Ghanaian music has shifted from the use of only English language to the local language.

“A typical example that shows that Ghanaian gospel music has changed is that of ‘Bo No Ni’ by Joe Mettle”, he added.
Akesse-Brempong has released a 13 track album entitled ‘Heal Our Land’
