The second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and the Member of Parliament for Nadowli West, Alban Bagbin is of the position that the drafting of manifestos should be greatly supported by the state rather than leaving the process to political parties.

Speaking on the Happy Morning Show, he stated: “manifestos are so critical that I believe they should not be left to the political parties. I believe the state should be interested in the manifestos of political parties and there should be some technical support from the state to the political parties in the process of drafting their manifestos”.

According to him, a feature of a developed democratic state is that the state employs experts who help political parties draft manifestos with the national vision in mind.

He, however, contrasted this phenomenon with what is happening in Ghana when he said: “one of the biggest challenge we have is that we have not gotten a clear vision for our country. We have not put in place a national development vision. Now the parties are left to do their own things which is not done in many developed democracies because manifestos are so critical to the development of the countries”.

He added that the country’s inability to control the process of manifesto drafting leads political parties to promise “unrealizable dreams”.

Join the trio, Samuel Eshun, Fati Shaibu-Ali and Raymond Nyamador on Happy Morning Show every weekday (Monday to Friday) 5:30am to 9:00am.
