Seven-year-old child prodigy and ‘talented kids winner’ Nakeeyat Dramani, has expertly captured Ghana’s democratic journey and the uncertainties that characterizes elections in the country in a poem.

In an interview at the Happy FM studios at Asylum Down, she wowed host of the ‘Ayekoo after Drive’ show DJ Advicer, with a poem where she acknowledged that Ghana is a beckon of hope even with a checkered journey with democracy.

‘’As a nation and a people, our journey towards democratization has been a checkered one oh yes!
It has not been a smooth journey at all.
However, we can still pat ourselves at the back because of some successes we have chalked as a nation. We have come far and in Africa, Ghana is seen as a beckon of hope and an oasis of peace to the world’’ she recited.

She also bemoaned the half-hearted manner in which as a nation, Ghana protects the peace that its enjoys.

‘’Ghana is an oasis of peace. Oh yes! It is true but how are we protecting this priceless gift. Touting all these credentials, we still know that we have not crossed the bridge yet’’ she recited.

According to Nakeeyat Dramani, the country is gripped by fear anytime there is an impending election because nobody is able to guarantee the outcome whether there will be peace or not.

‘’We sit on tenterhooks when we are going for elections because no one is able to guess or fathom the outcome. Whether at the end the country is going to remain in one piece or in pieces’’ she narrated.

She continued with ills that are fighting against Ghana’s fledgling democracy.

‘’We are still grappling with perjury and vigilantism, monetization of our democracy, patronage, vote buying and selling. The focus of this discourse is that the citizenry has to be oriented, conscientized to develop their capacity, knowledge and skills to be able to appreciate the fact that really, sovereignty resides in the people’’ she narrated.
