Ranking Member of the Education Committee of Parliament and the Honourable Member of Parliament for Akatsi North Constituency, Volta Region, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe has said that free education that does not include free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) does not allow an equal opportunity to free education.

He was speaking in an interview on the Happy Morning Show on Happy 98.9FM when he said: “The constitution says Senior High School (SHS) should be free so if you only take the secondary aspect of education, and you don’t take care of the technical aspect you are not fair to students at that level”.

According to him, technical education is a key component of education in the country and as such there is a need for every Government to attach utmost importance to technical education.

He furthered that technical training can help reduce unemployment in the country by training people who can establish their industries.

“If you only take the secondary aspect of education and you don’t take care of the technical education aspect, you will train people who are academically qualified but don’t have anything to do on their own and Government will not be able to offer employment of a white collar job to everybody”, he added.

In a launch of fundraising platforms by the National Democratic Congress on Thursday, 16th January, 2020, the flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama stated that the party will introduce free TVET education at all levels when voted into power.
