The Ghana Recycling Initiative by Private Enterprises (GRIPE) has encouraged the support of Ghanaians in its recycling initiative across the country.

Speaking in an interview on the Happy Morning Show aired on Happy 98.9FM, representatives from GRIPE in the persons of Naa Ayeley Quaynor and Felix Baidoo explained the motive and process of GRIPE’s recycling initiative.

According to Felix Baidoo, the motive behind the recycling initiative is to “integrate sustainable management system in place that can deal with the plastic issue that faces Ghana as a country”.

Naa Ayeley furthered on the motive when she stated: “Sustainability is the DNA of the companies that we represent to make sure that sustainability is a part of the responsibility for our consumers. That is why we came together to ensure that we essentially advocate proper disposal of our plastic waste”

The representatives divulged the avenues made available for people to partake in the recycling process.

“‘Cash your trash’ is one resource that we are trying to push. With your plastics, you can pay your prepaid electricity. We also have the assorting centre at Tema Newtown where you bring your plastics and we buy it”, Naa Ayeley added.

The representatives of GRIPE encouraged all to join the recycling initiative as this is an opportunity to make money.

“We want to emphasize that plastic is not a waste, it is a resource that can unlock socio-economic benefits for the country. A lot of women are making money out of it. And for those in the recycling project on a larger scale, these are people who have created startups. We want emphasize that everyone has to play an active role in recycling”, Felix stated.

GRIPE is an industry-led coalition formed under the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) with a stake in the plastics sector to integrate sustainable waste management solutions, particularly around plastics.

Join the trio, Samuel Eshun, Fati Shaibu-Ali and Raymond Nyamador on Happy Morning Show every weekday (Monday to Friday) 5:30am to 9:00am.
