Immediate past Ghana coach, Kwasi Appiah has disclosed that he never at any point in his spell with the Black Stars demanded money or gifts from the players.

The notion that national team coaches solicit monies and gifts from players is widespread and has always been said these acts influence selections into the teams.

In the past, some players have revealed how certain coaches either took monies or gifts of various kinds before selecting them into the national teams.

But Kwasi Appiah has said that in his eight-year cumulative stint with the Black Stars he made no such demands.

Kwasi Appiah in an interview with Angel TV said he considers himself to be richer than all the players and never thought it wise to make such requests.

Appiah said his decision was borne out of personal principle and demand for respect from his players. “No Black star player is richer than me so I will never ask a player to buy me a watch, shirt etc. I command respect”.

Kwasi Appiah was Black Stars coach until December 31 when his contract expired.

Appiah was replaced by his assistant, CK Akonnor and he has declared his support for him.

“He (CK Akonnor) came home to have a conversation with me and I think it’s a very good thing, some of us will provide him with any support or advice he needs because Black Stars is not for only one person”.

Appiah was reportedly on a $35,000 monthly salary and Akonnor is said to have negotiated a salary in the same region.
