A Foreign Policy and Security Analyst, Adib Saani, has cautioned that the law must not be abused to silence political critics as this is a recipe for conflict in the country.

Speaking in an interview on the Happy Morning Show aired on Happy 98.9FM, he stated: “Nobody in Ghana is above the law. Even the president is not above the law. We are governed by the rule of law and when you break the law, the law will surely catch up with you. However we need to be careful so that we don’t circumvent things in the name of the law to silence our political critics”.

He opined that Sammy Gyamfi’s case involving an alleged cyber crime should have been unbiased and transparent as the country is planning for an election this year. ”Ghanaians will now begin to ask questions whether this is indeed political or genuine. This is because we are in an election year and tensions are rising. People are now suspecting others. When you look all across Africa, most of the countries with conflicts are as a result of elections. This culminated as a result of mistrust”, he added.

According to him, one principle often used in interrogation to bring out the truth is to frustrate the culprit. But in this case, there was no need to frustrate Sammy Gyamfi. “If the person is a hardened criminal, it can be used. But this is not the case so it is very wrong and very immoral”, he added.

The National Communications Director of the NDC,Sammy Gyamfi was picked up by the BNI yesterday for an alleged cyber crime after which he was granted bail on the condition that he appears before the police every Monday.

Join the trio, Samuel Eshun, Fati Shaibu-Ali and Raymond Nyamador on Happy Morning Show every weekday (Monday to Friday) 5:30am to 9:00am.
