Residents in Odumse cry for potable water

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

Five communities in the Odumse electoral area in the Shai Osudoku district have been subjected to various hardships over the years due to the lack of potable drinking water.

Residents have to buy water daily from private tanks and borehole owners in other to go about their daily duties and household chores.

Those who cannot afford these private water supplies have to walk several hours to the dam to fetch water for their homes before going to their workplaces or schools.

Grace Ayertey Korkor a teacher at the Fiakonya Basic school, in an interview, said students spent more time fetching water from the dam thereby affecting their work outputs in school.

She said students had to queue for water and that made most of them late for school while others also slept during lessons due to fatigue.

Speaking to the Assemblyman of the area, Richard Adzah noted although the booster station is located in one of these communities, access to potable water is a challenge.

He said most families who could not afford to buy from the private suppliers resort to the use of the dam which hitherto poses a threat to the health of residents as castles and other animals drink from the same dam.

He noted because the township lacked potable drinking water, most workers especially teachers refuse to post to the area.

Several efforts to get authorities to get water to these areas proved futile he said.
