A Happy FM Eastern regional correspondent, Kwasi Baah, has confirmed that the National Identification Authority (NIA) is continuing the mass registration exercise in the region despite the seven (7) confirmed coronavirus cases.

He made these revelations during the ‘Oman Ne Mu Te Sen’ segment on the ‘Happy Morning Show’ (HMS).
‘’I visited twelve (12) centres, mostly churches where the registrations were ongoing. However, the good news is that all the centres I visited had veronica buckets and soap placed at the entrance and only twenty-five (25) people are allowed in at a given time. Additionally, there were hand sanitizers on the tables of the NIA officers ’’, Kwasi Baah reported debunking the earlier media reports that the mass registration exercise in the region has been suspended over coronavirus.

Kwasi Baah also told Samuel Eshun, host of HMS that from his observations each centre is able to register a minimum of hundred (100) people per day, using the day he took part in the registration as a test case.
‘’I was the seventy-eighth-(78th) person to register at my centre and I had several people behind me. I could count more than hundred (100) people registering on that day. But this also depends on the number of machines and personnel at the various centres.’’

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) is considering ‘airborne precautions’ for medical staff after study shows coronavirus can survive in the air.

The NIA started the mass registration for Ghana card in the Eastern Region on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 and was expected to end Friday, March 27, 2020.

The Eastern region is however, the last region for the mass registration exercise.
