Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo imposed a lockdown on cities in the country as part of measures to contain the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

He announced it during his fourth address to the nation. According to the President, the affected areas are Accra, Tema, and Kumasi which he described as “hotspots” of the outbreak.

According to President Nana Addo, the move is to enable contact tracing of persons who have come into contact with persons who have tested positive for the deadly virus.

He also added that people could move out to buy food, medicine, visit the bank for a transaction or go to the public toilet.

The lockdown which started from Monday, 30th March will end on 12th April 2020 at 1:00am. The President made it clear that the said date is subjected to review which means if the initial lockdown doesn’t achieve its purpose it might be extended.
