The Spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has disclosed to Happy FM that FIFA has given the FA up to next week to appoint a new technical director.

The GFA is currently without a Technical Director after Francis Oti-Akenteng left the role in March this year. Oti Akenteng had been at the directorate for the past 14 years before his contract expired in March.

The FA has received six applications for the position, according to information gathered by Happy FM. The six applicants are made of three local coaches and three expatriate coaches.

Speaking in an interview with Ghana’s number one Sports Station Happy FM, Henry Asante Twum said the appointment of a technical director is paramount to the GFA.

“The Technical Directorate is very important to FIFA. FIFA has given Ghana up to next week to name a new Technical Director after the retirement of Oti Akenteng”.

“If we don’t name a new Technical Director and inform FIFA about the person and what he is bringing on board, Ghana will be denied any support from FIFA in terms of technical development. It is a very crucial and that is why the GFA is ensuring the best and qualified person is appointed for the job”.

“The technical director department is very paramount now. Now FIFA has directed the technical directorate of every Association to spearhead the development of coaches based on their football philosophy. So now the technical department has a big job to do”, he indicated.

He added that, the GFA will brief the public on the appointment of the next Technical director by the close of the week.
