Three years on after that tragic incident at Nkawkaw, after the Ghana Premier League game against Inter Allies, players of Asante Kotoko are yet to receive their insurance package.

Asante Kotoko were enroute to Kumasi after their Ghana Premier League game against Inter Allies which they lost by a lone goal.

The team bus of the Porcupine Warriors had an accident at Nkawkaw en route to Kumasi which claimed the life of the Assistant Equipment Officer, Kofi Asare.

A statement from the club after the incident read, ‘’Players and officials on our team bus returning to Kumasi after our game with Inter Allies in Accra have been involved in an accident.
The accident occurred around 9:45pm at Nkawkaw, when our bus ran into a stationary vehicle.

Personnel on the bus are generally fine. Some are however receiving treatment at the Holy Family Hospital, Nkawkaw. Management requests that fans stay calm. A full statement on the incident will be issued in due course”.

According to Isaac Amoako, a former goalkeeper of the club, Executive Director of the club, Dr Kwame Kyei assured the players that all donations to be received for the fund will be given to them.

“We are yet to receive anything since the accident happened three years ago. We were promised of an insurance package. Later we got to find out that the bus wasn’t even insured.

“We are just pleading with them to give us a share of the donations that were made into the fund as promised by Dr Kwame Kyei”, he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Wamputu Sports on Happy FM.

Some players who were involved in the accident and have moved out of the club have complained of neglect since the incident.
