NPP’s fight against galamsey a scam - Opare-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has constantly announced his commitment to the fight against Galamsey. He stated that no matter the threats to oust him out of Government, he was ever-ready to fight illegal mining in Ghana.

However, the National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer George Opare-Addo alias Pablo, has said that Nana Addo’s fight against galamsey was dishonestly executed.

In an interview with Kwame Afrifa Mensah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he said: “The fight against galamsey is a scam and the president cannot vindicate himself in that fight. When anybody says the president has done well in the fight against galamsey, then that is bad. It is total dishonesty and it is sad that he couldn’t even fight the galamsey menace”.

According to him, even though the president promised to fight illegal mining, there were scandalous news around the missing excavators. This he said shows how dishonest the president has been to Ghanaians. “If you use dishonesty and lies to win elections you can never lead in peace and that is sad”, he added.

Last year, the President imposed a ban on small scale-mining with the security force, Operation Vanguard in charge. This was part of the measures to keep the lands and water bodies safe. This led to the seizure of excavators of illegal miners in the country.

However, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Prof. Frimpong Boateng, disclosed that hundreds of seized galamsey excavators had gone missing at the various assemblies. This was followed by allegations that some influential persons were frustrating the fight against the galamsey fight by financing the illegal activities and securing the missing excavators.
