Veteran coach J.E Sarpong has advised Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor to adopt a tactical system that will fit his style of play and his squad.
JE Sarpong was responding to comments made by C.K Akonnor who had stated that he wants his team to play just like Ghana’s 1978 AFCON winning team.
Sarpong explained that CK Akonnor should be mindful of his words because trying to emulate the 1978 team will be impossible.
Speaking in an interview on Happy 98.9 FM, he said, “It is good that he is being ambitious with winning the AFCON title. Times have changed and what happened in 1978 is different from what is happening now. Players who played in 1978 are different from those playing currently.
“The type of players in the team will also influence your style of play so he should play to the ability and capabilities of the players”
“CK Akonnor should tread cautiously. He is a very young coach and everything he says about winning the AFCON will be judged”, he added.
