The Director for Planning and Programmes at the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), David Osafo Adonteng, has disclosed that in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the sensitization on road safety has been on the minimal while the education on COVID-19 has become a priority.

In an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he stated: We have all been hit by COVID-19 since March till now. This has caused a lot of changes. Even the president mentioned that we are not in normal times and we are still not in normal times. So our work on educating people on road accidents at the National Roads Safety Authority has been on the low because everyone is focused on COVID-19”.

He made known that the NRSA, in collaboration with the Minister of Transport, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, donated some items to lorry stations to ensure that the health protocols such as the washing of hands, the use of sanitizers, among others will be observed.

He noted that during the lockdown, road accidents were at a minimal compared to previous years. He added that even though the focus was on COVID-19 education, the Authority did its best to educate the drivers, passengers and transport operators on road accidents.
He furthered that as the focus around COVID-19 has sunk, the NRSA hopes to begin a campaign that will highlight the need for safety on our roads.

The National Road Safety Authority is a state agency charged with the mandate to develop, promote, coordinate, and to regulate activities, procedures and standards related to road safety.
