Hearts players concerned about league restart, not finances – Nii Odoom

Hearts of Oak head coach, Edward Nii Odoom, has disclosed that his players are more concerned about returning to the field than their wages.

He made these comments in a Happy FM-led virtual sports forum titled ‘The Effect of COVID-19 on football; the perspective of Ghanaian coaches’.

“We talk with the players every day. Their worry is when the game is coming on and when we are starting the league. The board of the club has dealt with the financial aspect so they are okay. I told them that the president has said that the start of football will be reviewed from 31st July”, he said.

He noted that the club is prepared to follow all health protocols associated with the start of the league. He also added that it will be best if the Ghana Football Association will begin the league with a calendar different from the European calendar.

President Akufo-Addo, in his 10th address on the measures taken against Coronavirus, announced that the suspension of sporting events, among other things, has been extended until 31st July.

Some industry players have, however, opined that the 2019/20 football season should be suspended amid the coronavirus considering that the start of the league can only be reviewed after 31st July 2020.
